XBOX LIVE ARCADE SONIC THE HEDGEHOG
PRICE: 400 POINTS
DEVELOPER: SONIC TEAM
ACHIEVEMENTS: EASY

On Reflection

Still a damn-sight better than the proper 360 version and for a mere 400 points, both this and its sequel represent THE best value to fun ration on Live! Big words, yes, but big true ones.

The Score

How on earth does someone review Sonic The Hedgehog? (look at your screen, write some words, then submit it. And stop taking so many tea breaks – ed). Seriously, though, for many people in their late teens to mid-twenties, the terms ‘Sonic’ and ‘videogame’ are practically interchangeable, one being the benchmark standard of the other.

Short of a watercolour smudging of once sharp and unwelcoming sprites, the game remains untouched, and every inch as entertaining now as it was back when Andi Peters was Mr Showbiz. The infectious music, the smooth escalation of difficulty between levels, the way Sonic gets mad at you if the phone rings and you leave him hanging. Bless his defiant attitude. In short, platform bliss, pure and simple.

8 out of 10
