On Reflection
Apart from the lazy titling (anyone can do the ‘re’ thing; in fact, this is Review: Re-viewed), Jetpac
remains a lot of fun and represents decent value for money.
The Score
We’re not too sure how we missed this classic slice of Live Arcade heaven the first time around, so
here’s our two pence worth (we’re English, so we don’t use cents here).
Like Pac-Man Championship Edition and Prince Of Persia Classic, Jetpac Refuelled is the perfect
example of revisiting a classic from yesteryear. The gameplay is fast and furious, the visuals have
been suitably spruced up (although the original Spectrum release has been included) and there are
some tasty new multiplayer modes that greatly enhance the already superb gameplay.
Rare has really gone to town with its first Xbox Live release and as well as offering superb value
for money, it’s also included the aforementioned retro version of the game that’s bound to keep
the purists happy, and a handy history of the company. Although all you ever do is put spaceships
together and then fill them with fuel so you can reach the next stage, the constantly massing
enemies, slowly dropping fuel bar and simple controls means that you’ll constantly be returning.
And with over 120 levels, it’s going to take a very long time before you reach its end.
If only all 400 point games had this much attention to detail…
