On Reflection

Dolphins are sh*t.

The Score

Sega’s assault on Live Arcade continues, but this time it’s released a bit of a stinker. The biggest problem with Ecco The Dolphin is that it’s simply far too plodding (something that’s reflected in the impossibly hard to gain Achievements) and it doesn’t really lend itself to the format. While this could also be said about Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night to a certain extent, at least that was always a brilliant game in the first place and its notoriety and rarity made everyone want to play it and discover what all the fuss was about.

Ecco The Dolphin, on the other hand, was always more of an interesting concept than a truly great game, and now, some 14 years after it was first released, it’s looking a bit on the tired side. Great music though.
