On Reflection
It’s still shite, to put it bluntly… we would normally assume that those downloading it are avid
fans of the series. We’re avid fans ourselves, so to any avid fans out there; it’s shite.
The Score
Here’s a question for you. How do average titles like Battlestar Galactica navigate the maelstrom
that is Microsoft’s Live Arcade certification process when gems like Sensible World Of Soccer get
lost in ether? Hang on, why are we even asking you? We’re the reviewers...
While Battlestar Galactica isn’t as disappointing as the likes of Street Trace, Wing Commander
Arena or Band Of Bugs, it’s nowhere near the quality of recent outputs such as Puzzle Quest,
Space Giraffe and countless other titles that we could easily mention.
Based on the TV series, it’s a surprisingly solid effort and features levels based on the hit show,
solid level design and an expansive campaign mode that perfectly captures the spirit of the series.
Sadly, there is still plenty to dislike and the cons definitely outweigh the pros.
While there are plenty of different ships from both sides to fly, they all handle very similarly
to each other and boast all the finesse and grace of a group of yobs on a stag night in
Bournemouth. Throw in extremely stodgy controls and some questionable physics and the end
result is a rather amateurish product that feels like a quick cash-in to ensure that a few sales are
made before the show disappears off our screens forever.
It’s also insanely easy and offers no lasting challenge. Add in a very laggy multiplayer mode and
there’s little here to keep you entertained for more than a few hours. A pity.
