Industry analyst Michael Pachter has told us he expects a new 360 to launch next year to coincide with the release of Project Natal

“In order to succeed at its original vision, Microsoft probably has to sell us a new SKU,” said Pachter, after we asked him how long it will take Microsoft to deliver on its vision of a converged entertainment hub. “The true entertainment hub will need a huge hard drive, DVR functionality, an always on Internet connection, perhaps an HDTV tuner, and a ton of content available.

“I think that this will come with the next version of the Xbox 360, which I expect to launch with Project Natal, likely at year-end 2010 or early 2011.  I expect the same CPU/GPU combination, with many other features built-in to the hardware.”

So, yet another comment to throw on the pile of speculation building-up over Microsoft’s plans for Natal’s grand launch next year.

I think we all knew the new console would launch this year. Damn that recession. Good for gamers, bad for M$.

BS! MS have said they havnt even come half way through this generation yet… they plan on riding the xbox dry. Much like Sony did with the PS2

Why? Including a DVR would be expensive along with Microsofts already pricey HDD’s. Throwing in an HD Tuner? Really? My 1080P Sony HD LCD already has a built in Tuner, I don’t need another nor do I want to pay for one. Always online? I’ve got FIOS and my PS3 runs 24/7, always online.

    thats not going to hapen.
the whole point of microsoft releasing project natal is to extend the life span of the 360.
its going to be hard to expand the life span of the console if they bring out a new and better one.
they might make a few aditions ala nintendo dsi or psp go.
but it wont be anything to drastic.

Why are you still talking to this guy? Everything that spews out of his mouth is BS. I can’t wait until the industry finally kicks Pachter to the curb.
