We thought that now might
be a good time to show you
another teeny tiny taster
from A2M’s gracefully balletic shooter.
With 2007 having finally come to a close,
it’s about time we started getting excited
about titles not hitting our consoles for
a goodly long time to come, pointedly,
towards the last quarter of this year.
Taking control of Rubi, a (naturally)
redheaded assassin with a penchant
for pistols, swords, and double-jointed
projectile avoidance, you’ll be merrily
gambolling through swathes of henchmen
to reach your ultimate mark. But this
is no Assassin’s Creed; stealth, social or
otherwise, is an irrelevant concept to Wet.
Instead, Rubi prefers the tried and tested
‘kill ’em all in the face’ frontal assault,
using her exceptionally limber martial
repertoire to whatever effect serves her
best. And we’re not expecting to see
dying enemies vanishing unconvincingly,
instead we’re predicting plenty of blood,
intestines and other types of slippery
death goo. So despite the female lead,
Tomb Raider this is not – an 18 certificate
all but guaranteed.
But, there are elements that are fuelling
an itch for plenty of ‘let’s wait and see’
chin-rubbing. Firstly, whether or not the
control system will feel natural enough to
comfortably attempt, for example, a wall-
run, controlling two pistols independently
of one another to take down two enemies
while side-flipping over another’s head
and cleverly finishing him off with the
sword. Secondly, we can’t help but feel a
little cynical toward the developer, given
that its entire back catalogue includes
no 360 titles at all, and only one or two
original IPs, the majority of its games
comprising of titles like The Ant Bully,
Happy Feet, and The Grinch.
Chances are though, that it’s sick to
death of churning out this kind of dirge
and we can’t deny that, as it stands, this is
looking sweet. All power to A2M if it pulls
it off.
