It’s the end of the week again and you’ve finally got the time to get back to the business of gaming, but you only have left over Microsoft points from your last big purchase on your Xbox Live account – a paltry 800 points

It’s the end of the week again and you’ve finally got the time to get back to the business of gaming, but you only have left over Microsoft points from your last big purchase on your Xbox Live account – a paltry 800 points. In a veritable sea of Xbox Live content just what should you get? Here’s  what’s we recommend worth grabbing this week- and all for no more than 800 MS points.

The Zombie Island of Dr Ned DLC : 400 MS points

borderlandsdrnedEverybody loves Borderlands, and for good reason. It’s an inspired mix of genre-blending FPS action and MMORPG loot gathering fun that’s as addictive as all get out. While some Borderlands DLC has been a bit hit and miss (We’d warn against bothering with Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot) The Zombie Island of Dr Ned has been one of the better offerings. Battling Zombies that properly scale up to your level on an island of the undead means a whole new lot of loot to get hold of –  and Borderlands trademark humour really shines in this DLC. It’s currently on special offer for just 400 MS points and a great way to spend those last remaining points on your account. And at that price it should be easy to convince a friend or two to join you for some great co-op.

Left 4 Dead 2: The Passing: 560 MS points

left-4-dead-2-the-passing-posterZombie fighting crossover ahoy! As much as we liked the gang from Left 4 Dead 2 the original crew have a special place in our hearts, so Left 4 Dead 2 The Passing, which brings both sets of Survivors together, is a nice bit of fan service by Valve. It’s also whole new campaign to survive through (through it’s possible that not every Survivor will make it through the story) and this piece of DLC is about as long as Crash Course, but a great deal tougher. There are new Infected to battle like the Witch Bride and Fallen Survivor and two new weapons, the golf club and M60 Machine gun to bloodily kill them with. When you throw in the new game modes, like Realism Versus and Chainsaw Massacre, (where Survivors use nothing but chainsaws) you’ve a really hectic and literally meaty piece of DLC. With value for money a constant worry with DLC this sort of offering at this kind of price is why we love all things Valve.

After Burner Climax : 800 MS points

climax-5 If you’re going to blow your whole 800 points in one go you’ll be hard pressed to find a better bargain this week than After Burner Climax. This modernisation of the classic 1987 Sega arcade game first appeared in Japanese arcades back in 2006, wowing scrolling fans with its blistering aerial combat and snazzy servo equipped chair. You might not have the chair anymore, but that aside the Xox Live rendition of the game is a perfect remake of a great game. If you’re into old school shooters (and who isn’t right?) this is a great way to get some quick fun out of those points.
