Trials HD – Uh Oh

Around the beginning of last year, I found myself with a problem. And that problem was called The Club. Bizarre’s underrated mix of shooter and memory game had me and a couple of buddies in serious trouble. There was no escape. The outside did not exist. We. Had. To. Keep. Playing. Getting to the top, the very top, of a worldwide leaderboard -it can do strange things to a man.

Trials HD caught me unawares. There’s me thinking it was just a slick, physics based platformer with a penchant for comedic violence. How could I be so foolish? After 500 attempts trying to best my friend’s time on one single level, it hit me. The Club has found me again. It has changed form, morphed into a new, unassuming shape. Its claws are in and there’s just no hope for me.

It’s not like I asked for it either. I don’t really enjoy doing this. I actively steer clear of games that might bring it out in me – asynchronous leaderboard competitveness syndrome. Had I known, I wouldn’t have touched it. The sun’s even shining, and I’m stuck inside revving a put-put dirt bike up a flippin’ tyre. My life is losing meaning. Trials is winning. But at least, AT LEAST, I’m in the top 1000 times on the 8th level. Well, I was this morning. Oh woe is me.

Trials HD is excellent. I was a bit wary of the 1200MSP price, but it’s turned out to be one of the best value games on Live Arcade.

As you say Jon the quest to beat friends’ times is one of the most addictive aspects of any game I’ve played in a long time.

I think it’s time for me to start playing it again actually…

Totally agreed. I was a bit warey of the price but with a level editor and the ability to download other people’s tracks this is just fantastic. Some of the later levels are just evil. My 360 died on Friday though so I’m missing this lots just now… and shadow complex on Wednesday :( Still Okami is keeping me occupied the now.
